In a new interview with Australia's Jaimunji, vocalist Fernando Ribeiro of Portuguese dark metal pioneers MOONSPELL spoke about the band's latest album, "Far From God", which was released on July 3 via Napalm Records.

When asked how he landed at the title for the record, Fernando explained that it took some time to choose a suitable title, but ultimately decided on "Far From God" due to its poetic and philosophical connotations.

The vocalist cited Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophical works as an influence, stating that Nietzsche was predicting the future with his ideas about humanity's distance from original concepts of love, virtue, and kindness.

Ribeiro also acknowledged the band's own experiences with being treated poorly in the music scene, describing it as a "bullseye title" due to its relevance to contemporary society.

Ribeiro compared the album title to current events, such as terrorism, occupation, evangelism, and presidential evangelists, stating that these issues show how humanity has strayed from its original intentions.

The vocalist emphasized that MOONSPELL's latest album was produced by Jaime Gomez Arellano, who previously worked with PARADISE LOST, GHOST, and SÓLSTAFIR.

The "Far From God" recording took place at Orgone Studios, where Ribeiro stated the band aimed to capture their natural sound.

The vocalist's discussion highlights MOONSPELL's desire to express complex themes through their music.
