Norwegian dark ambient and industrial metal pioneer Mortiis has released a digital EP titled 'Farewell Romero'.

The EP features a reimagined version of the track 'Farewell Romero' from his 2023 full-length album Ghosts Of Europa, originally released on June 26 via Prophecy Productions.

The digital EP also includes a Madrigal version of 'Violent Silence', featuring former Todesbonden vocalist Laurie Ann Haus.

The track was co-conceived with French classical pianist Nicolas Horvath, who has previously collaborated with Alcest and Studio Ghibli.

The piano-driven variation was initially intended as a laid-back interpretation but evolved into a darker, more intense composition with prominent drumming and gritty textures, mixed by Marc Urselli.

The 'Violent Silence' Madrigal version was developed after Laurie Ann Haus recorded vocals for an album track, which Mortiis later decided to restructure into a standalone version.

During mixing, the final section was left a cappella due to unclear instructions, a decision Mortiis later embraced as a 'happy accident'.

The EP's cover artwork was created by Nihil and is presented alongside the tracklist.

'Farewell Romero' was inspired by the John Carpenter film 'Escape from New York', incorporating ARP Odyssey and Sequential Prophet Pro-5 synths, with Mortiis using his 1975 ARP 2600 and Electro Comp 101 instruments during production.

The title references a character in the film, whose actor has recently passed away, adding emotional context to the release.

Ghosts Of Europa, Mortiis' debut album for Prophecy Productions, is available in multiple limited editions including a 2CD artbook, gatefold LP variants, and bonus LP and cassette formats.
