Philadelphia-based supergroup New Miserable Experience, featuring members of Rivers of Nihil, Rosetta, ex-Revocation, and Model Prisoner, have unveiled a new single titled 'Ataraxia'.
This is a sneak peek into their third full-length album Gild The Lily, set to release on January 23 via Pelagic Records.
Formed as a collaboration between vocalist and bassist David Grossman (ex-Rosetta) and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Mahesh Kost (Model Prisoner), the band has grown into a five-piece with the addition of Rosetta drummer Bruce 'B.J.' McMurtrie Jr., former Revocation bassist Brett Bamberger, and Rivers of Nihil guitarist Brody Uttley.
On the single, the band comments: 'Ataraxia' started as one of Brody's ideas.
We all felt it had a Portishead type of vibe that we instantly grabbed on to.
As far as the lyrics, when life is falling apart, the idea of 'Ataraxia' (calmness untroubled by mental or emotional disquiet) sounds very appealing.' The album, with 12 tightly arranged tracks, emphasizes strong melodies, controlled dynamics, and rich production.
Gild The Lily opts for an emotional weight built through patience and atmosphere over overt heaviness, encouraging repeated, attentive listening.
