In a recent interview, Obituary frontman John Tardy discussed the band's progress towards releasing new music.
Despite their relentless touring schedule, Obituary continues to write new material, with ideas being gathered in fragments through various means, including soundchecks and impromptu jam sessions.
While no release date is locked in, the wheels are turning towards creating a follow-up to 2017's Obituary and 2020's Dying of Everything.
Tardy was also asked about the possibility of an official Big Four tour featuring Morbid Angel, Deicide, Obituary and Cannibal Corpse.
While some have expressed doubt about the feasibility of such a tour due to perceived tensions between the bands, Tardy denies any issues with his own band's relationships with the other groups.
"We've got no problem opening for anyone," he insists.
In fact, Obituary has already toured extensively with Cannibal Corpse and Deicide on previous occasions.
Tardy acknowledges that hierarchy politics may play a role in how these bands are billed and positioned at festivals and concerts, but maintains that Obituary is not concerned about such things.
"We'd open for them in a heartbeat," he affirms, pointing to the band's long-standing friendships outside of Florida's death metal circle, including their recent European tour with Testament.
