Jukka Pelkonen, vocalist of Finnish melodic death metal band Omnium Gatherum, has been diagnosed with lymphoma, a cancer affecting the lymphatic system.

As a result, Pelkonen will sit out the band’s upcoming European headline tour, set to begin February 11 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Pelkonen shared the following statement via social media:

“It is Jukka from OG. I have to inform you I won't be able to participate on the upcoming European tour. This is because I have been diagnosed with lymphoma, and this serious situation now requires my full attention.

But worry not. OG is a train which is not easily stopped. After careful dialogue with my brothers in OG, we decided to ask a talented individual to join the tour. He is Henry Hämäläinen—an experienced singer and frontman. We think he is more than suitable to headbang with OG on this tour.”

The band added that the tour will proceed as planned, promising “one hell of a ride” despite the setback. Hämäläinen commented that while he is saddened by Pelkonen’s absence, he is honored by the band’s trust.

Last month, Omnium Gatherum surprise-released the single “Moongold,” recorded during the sessions for their latest album, May The Bridges We Burn Light The Way, released late last year to widespread acclaim.

Celebrating their 30th anniversary, Omnium Gatherum will tour Europe with special guests Fallujah and In Mourning. The world tour cycle for May The Bridges We Burn Light The Way began in 2025 with an extensive North American headline run.
