Swedish progressive metal legends Opeth have unveiled a new performance video for “§7,” a standout track from their latest album, The Last Will And Testament.

The clip captures the band in stark, commanding form, emphasizing precision, atmosphere, and the emotional weight that defines Opeth’s current era. Stripped of visual excess, the performance foregrounds the group’s musical chemistry and the intensity at the core of the song.

The release arrives ahead of Opeth’s upcoming U.S. tour, which begins in two weeks. The run will feature material from The Last Will And Testament alongside selections from the band’s extensive catalog.

Frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt commented on the challenges of performing the track live:

“That track was scary to play live at first. Most of our songs are challenging, and this one is no exception. I believe we all love playing it. There are a myriad of details that could go wrong, but it’s fun. It keeps you on your toes.

And of course, there’s Ian Anderson’s narration, which is the only part of our set that isn’t live. Since we don’t play to a click track, the song can drag or push depending on the tempo of the evening. It’s fun, and I love the unpredictable character of this song in a live setting.”

The Last Will And Testament was released on November 22, 2024, via Reigning Phoenix Music in collaboration with Moderbolaget.

Set in the post–World War I era, the album unfolds the story of a wealthy, conservative patriarch whose final will exposes long-buried family secrets. The narrative moves through his confessions, the reactions of his estranged twin children, and the enigmatic presence of a polio-stricken girl taken in by the family. The album opens with the reading of the will inside the family mansion.

Following the U.S. tour, Opeth will perform select dates across Europe later this year. https://youtu.be/lebYPPES5ss
