Veteran thrash metal band OVERKILL has been performing without founding guitarist Derek Tailer due to physical issues.
In an interview, bassist D.D.
Verni explained that he recently underwent shoulder surgery and was initially cleared for live performances, but after playing several shows with his arm in a locked position, he suffered another injury.
Verni confirmed that he is still a full-fledged member of OVERKILL and continues to work on new music with the band.
"Oh, yeah," Verni said.
"I'm writing right now.
I have most of the new OVERKILL record done, demoed up, for the most part ready to go." The band's vocalist Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth also shared updates on their songwriting sessions and upcoming album release in an appearance on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk".
When asked about the progress of the new material, Ellsworth replied: "I think we're always working on new music.
That's been the motif since all the way back in the [early OVERKILL] days." The band has a busy touring schedule ahead, including an extensive run with TESTAMENT and DESTRUCTION in the US, but it remains to be seen whether Verni will rejoin Tailer for these dates.
OVERKILL last released their album "Scorched" via Nuclear Blast in April 2023.
No official release date has been announced for their upcoming LP.
