During a March 11 appearance on SiriusXM's Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, OVERKILL singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth spoke about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's follow-up to their latest album, Scorched, which came out in April 2023 via Nuclear Blast.

He said, "I think we're always working on new music.

That's been the motif since all the way back in the [early OVERKILL] days.

You're always kind of in a writing mode.

You're keeping your eyes open, you're in a writing mode, or at least my end of it." Ellsworth mentioned that they look to record the album maybe at the end of their upcoming U.S.

tour with TESTAMENT and DESTRUCTION, which is scheduled to kick off on March 14 in Portland, Oregon.

When asked if he and his OVERKILL bandmates are going to perform any new music on the tour with TESTAMENT and DESTRUCTION, Ellsworth said, "No, we're not.

We're just gonna get out there on the road and stretch our legs again." He added, "It's gonna feel good," referring to the return of his bandmate D.D.

Verni, who has been recovering from shoulder surgery.

The veteran New Jersey thrash metal outfit will continue with Christian "Speesy" Giesler as a temporary replacement for Verni on their European shows in September 2024." OVERKILL's lineup change brings attention to the band's progress on new music, as Ellsworth shared that they are always working on new songs and have nine or ten songs scratched out for their upcoming album.
