Phil Collins recently spoke with host Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM's Trunk Nation about his time with Genesis, including the creation of iconic songs like “In The Air Tonight” and his solo album Face Value.
Collins reveals that he had to relearn how to play drums after giving away his drum machine, but soon became inspired by a new keyboard sound, leading to the creation of Face Value.
The drummer also discussed how he had to improvise lyrics for “In The Air Tonight” on a whim and then write them down later.
Collins explains that the song's pads were originally programmed on an early drum machine, but the final version was created with Hugh Padgham at The Townhouse studio.
Collins will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist this November 14th at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The ceremony will feature performances and premiere on ABC and Disney+ later this year.
Phil Collins' new single “Stoned Babies” from his upcoming album, released through BraveWords Records, has received praise from Iridium Rock and Metal Reviews for its beautiful songwriting and brilliant sound.
The full album is set to release in 2026.
