Russian protest collective Pussy Riot has announced the release of their debut album, "Cyka", on Friday, June 12.
The news comes after a high-profile protest at the Venice Biennale, where the band launched their music and message to coincide with Russia's return to the art world event.
The album features guest appearances by Avenged Sevenfold and includes tracks like "Candy Dopamine", which has been described as a "fever dream/panic attack collision of punk rage, pop hooks, and emotional honesty." Pussy Riot founder Nadya Tolokonnikova explains that the song is about her personal experience with prescription medication and mental health.
The album will be accompanied by live performances, including a show in Paris on June 20.
More tour dates are expected to be announced soon.
In related news, Pussy Riot's latest performance art installation was shut down due to nearby protests at MOCA Warehouse Los Angeles, but it received critical acclaim for its powerful commentary on the intersection of art and politics.\
