Queen have announced the global cinematic release of Queen Budapest, the band’s final filmed live performance, marking the 40th anniversary of the historic 1986 concert in Budapest.

The show, captured on July 27, 1986, at the Népstadion, was the first Western rock performance behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War era.

With 80,000 tickets selling out and an estimated 45,000 fans listening outside, the event represented a major cultural breakthrough.

The Hungarian government approved the filming operation, a first for a Communist state.

The performance has been meticulously restored in 4K by Sir Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production facility in New Zealand, with newly remixed audio from original multitrack recordings.

The film features iconic hits including 'We Will Rock You,' 'We Are The Champions,' 'A Kind Of Magic,' 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love,' 'Under Pressure,' 'Who Wants To Live Forever,' 'Hammer To Fall,' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody,' as well as an acoustic arrangement of the traditional Hungarian folk song 'Tavaszi Szél Vizet Áraszt.' A standout moment from 'Radio Ga Ga' has been enhanced with new footage and audio.

The 4K restoration will premiere at the Budapest Classics Film Marathon on September 15, hosted by the National Film Institute of Hungary.

A UK premiere follows on September 30.

The film will be released globally in cinemas and IMAX from October 7, in partnership with Trafalgar Releasing.

The release is part of Sony Music Vision’s first official project with Queen, marking the beginning of Sony Music’s official partnership with the band’s catalog.

The film will be accompanied by a multi-format package from Legacy Recordings internationally and Hollywood Records in the U.S.

and Canada, released on October 30.

The soundtrack, newly remixed from original multitracks, will be available alongside Blu-Ray, DVD, CD, and a 3LP vinyl set for the first time.
