In a new interview with Mistress Carrie, SKID ROW bassist Rachel Bolan shared his thoughts on songwriting inspiration.
When asked to name a song from any other artist that he thinks is 'perfectly crafted', Bolan cited Boz Scaggs' 'Lido Shuffle' and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 'Breakdown'.
He praised the simplicity and structure of both songs, stating that they were like 'Wow, where did this come from?' Bolan also reflected on his own songwriting style, admitting that he often writes with a more literal approach, avoiding metaphors.
He credited his background in three-chord rock bands like KISS and AC/DC for influencing his style.
Bolan will release his debut solo album, 'Gargoyle Of The Garden State', on June 12 via earMUSIC.
Produced by Nick Raskulinecz, the LP features guest appearances by Bolan's SKID ROW bandmates Dave 'Snake' Sabo and others.
Musically, the album blends punk energy with melodic sensibility, wrapped in swagger and raw edge.
A standout track is a surprising cover of OASIS's 'Rock And Roll Star', reimagined through Bolan's unique lens.
