In a new interview with Shan Man of the 98KUPD radio station, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello reflected on his role as the "curator" for BLACK SABBATH's all-star "Back To The Beginning" farewell show.
The concert took place at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, and featured Ozzy Osbourne performing with his solo band before rejoining original BLACK SABBATH members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward for four classic SABBATH songs: "War Pigs," "Iron Man," "N.I.B." and "Paranoid." Morello said he took the task of curating the show very seriously, using his love of heavy metal music to try to make something special happen.
He revealed that he landed at Heathrow Airport and received a call saying that Yungblud would not be singing BLACK SABBATH's "Changes" as originally planned.
The guitarist also recalled playing pinball with his son while Ozzy Osbourne was in the after-party, where he got to give Ozzy a kiss on the head one last time.
Morello said it felt like an emotional success for all of the artists involved, for Ozzy, and for fans.
He praised the night as "really pretty special" and mentioned that each band played at least one BLACK SABBATH or Ozzy song.
The concert was watched by 40,000 ticketholders and 5.8 million individuals online, with additional charities raising tens of thousands of pounds in donations from raffling off tickets to the show and auctioning off iconic art and band photographs donated by BLACK SABBATH.
Ozzy passed away on July 22, 2025, but his legacy lives on through his music and the impact it has had on fans around the world.
