LYNYRD SKYNYRD guitarist Rickey Medlocke has weighed in on the debate surrounding AI-generated music in a recent interview with Brazil's 92.5 Kiss FM.
When asked about the use of artificial intelligence to create melodies, harmonies and rhymes, Medlocke expressed his reservations, stating that "there's no value" in music created by machines.
He referenced the example of an A.I.-generated song reaching number one on the Billboard country charts, saying there was "no heart and soul" in such a creation.
Medlocke continued to discuss the importance of live instrumentation, saying LYNYRD SKYNYRD takes pride in their real-instrument performances.
The guitarist emphasized that "if you can't produce for real, then I'm not really sure what you're doing," suggesting that relying on pre-recorded tracks undermines the authenticity of rock music.
Despite Medlocke's skepticism towards A.I.-generated content, he acknowledged its potential benefits in certain areas.
Meanwhile, LYNYRD SKYNYRD and FOREIGNER have announced a co-headlining tour across North America this summer, kicking off on July 23 in Atlanta, Georgia.
The tour will visit multiple cities before concluding on August 29 in Rogers, Arkansas.
This marks another significant development in the band's extensive touring history.
