Legendary guitarist Ross ''The Boss'' Friedman has been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Friedman is best known for his work with Manowar and Death Dealer.
Friedman has been a member of the influential New York City proto-punk band The Dictators since its formation in 1973.
He co-founded Manowar in 1980 and remained with the band until 1989.
In a statement, Friedman's bandmates expressed their support for him during this challenging time.
They asked fans to keep Friedman in their thoughts and honor him with the same passion and loyalty he has always shown to heavy metal music.
ALS is a rare and terminal neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord controlling voluntary muscle movement.
The statement from Death Dealer also announced the release of a brand-new music video for the crushing track ''Devil's Triangle'' off their latest studio album, Reign Of Steel.
The band has been continuing to support their latest release with relentless touring in the wake of Friedman's diagnosis.
The 72-year-old guitarist was honored by BraveWords Records and Black Angel Promotions with praise for his work on the new Bangalore Choir album Rapid Fire Succession: On Target Part II.
