In an interview with Ed Hack of This Day In Metal, SYMPHONY X singer Russell Allen spoke about the progress of songwriting sessions for the band's long-awaited follow-up to 2015's "Underworld" album.
He stated that "tons of music has been written by [SYMPHONYSX guitarist Michael] Romeo and stuff, and lyrics by the guys — some lyrics myself, Mike and Mike [LePond, SYMPHONY X bassist]." with a goal to finish the record within the next five months.
Allen expressed his pride in Romeo's orchestral composition skills, which have been showcased on the band's upcoming album.
When asked about the lyrical direction of the new SYMPHONY X material, Russell revealed that there is "a concept thing emerging," but refused to give away any specifics.
He also discussed his approach to songwriting, stating that he often gravitates towards themes that allow him to bring a personal touch to his work.
This development comes after guitarist Michael Romeo spoke with the "Coffee With Ola" podcast in October 2024 about the band's upcoming LP, citing the challenges of working on the record during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also acknowledged that the band has had to tour extensively to earn income while waiting for royalties from their previous albums.
Romeo elaborated that organizing and arranging the material will take some time but noted that there is already a substantial amount of music created, which he described as "overwhelming." The band's next album will be their first since Romeo released his latest solo album, "War Of The Worlds Pt.
2," in March 2022 via InsideOut Music.
In related news, Russell Allen recently released a deeply personal new ballad titled "Love Her Like I Do (Ava's Song)" in recognition of Autism Awareness Month, which offers an intimate glimpse into his experience as a father raising a daughter on the autism spectrum.
