In a new interview with Uruguay's The Dark Melody, SYMPHONY X singer Russell Allen spoke about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's long-awaited follow-up to 2015's "Underworld" album.
He stated that the gaps between albums have always been present in the band's career, but they've worsened over time due to their unique creative process.
Allen explained that guitarist Michael Romeo has been working tirelessly on new material for years and has produced a massive amount of songs for the upcoming album.
However, the band has struggled to condense this material into a cohesive record, with Romeo estimating that he's sent Allen around 10 hours of music for a 55-minute record.
The singer emphasized that SYMPHONY X is not trying to rush the creative process and is instead focusing on producing high-quality music.
He added that the band is weighing its options for touring after their upcoming Latin American tour, which kicks off later this month, but nothing is certain at this point.
Romeo also spoke about the challenges of creating music during a pandemic and how it's affected the band's productivity.
However, he remains optimistic that SYMPHONY X will be able to complete the album within the next year or so, pending any unforeseen circumstances.
The upcoming tour marks a milestone in the band's 30-year history, and Allen expressed his excitement about celebrating this achievement with fans before getting back into the studio to work on new material.
He acknowledged that SYMPHONY X is now an older band, but he believes their unique sound remains relevant and will continue to inspire fans around the world.
When asked if they had any idea when the album would be released, Romeo admitted that it's difficult to predict exactly when it'll be out due to various factors like tour schedules and record label windows.
However, Allen expressed his confidence that SYMPHONY X will put out a quality product that will satisfy their fans.
SYMPHONY X has completed an extensive tour behind "Underworld" in 2016, including a U.S.
run of shows with OVERKILL and a pair of headlining performances in Australia.
However, the band's bassist David Zablidowsky tragically passed away in a car accident in July 2017.
The band has since continued to tour and create music, with Romeo releasing his latest solo album "War Of The Worlds Pt.
2" in March 2022 via InsideOut Music.
The record features guest vocals by Dino Jelusick (WHITESNAKE, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA).
While SYMPHONY X may be facing challenges in their creative process, they remain committed to producing high-quality music and entertaining fans around the world.
SYMPHONY X will embark on a 30th-anniversary Latin American tour later this month.
The exact dates for the tour are as follows: "We're gonna get down there and have a good time and celebrate this sort of milestone in our lives and in our careers with you guys," Allen said about the upcoming tour.
