Russian deathcore outfit Slaughter To Prevail and Polish blackened death metal veterans Behemoth have had their planned performances in Istanbul, Turkey officially canceled due to pushback from local groups citing conflicts with "societal values." The shows were scheduled at Zorlu Performing Arts Center Turkcell Stage on February 10 for Slaughter To Prevail and February 11 for Behemoth.
According to an official press release from the Istanbul Governor's office, the cancelations are due to widespread public backlash after Turkish broadcaster Akit TV targeted both bands, labeling them as "preaching satanism" and opposing religion.
Slaughter To Prevail vocalist Alex Terrible has pushed back against these claims, clarifying on social media that they are a "brutal death metal band." The cancelations have been confirmed by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül via social media, stating that no activity that "corrupts society" will be permitted in the city.
This move comes as part of a two-day ban on all concerts, festivals, and ticketed events at Zorlu PSM and Zorlu Center from February 10 to February 11, enforced under Turkish law.
