In a recent interview with Drumtalk, SLAYER drummer Paul Bostaph revealed how he developed his signature drumming style.

Bostaph was asked to explain the origins of his "relentless tom-and-snare rolls," which first appeared on the band's debut album 'Divine Intervention' in 1994.

He credited intense practice and a willingness to push himself, stating that the more you practice, the better you'll get.

Bostaph recalled taping every rehearsal with SLAYER and listening to them at night or the next morning to assess his progress.

He noted that he initially had to learn Dave Lombardo's drum parts but soon found his own style and phrasing.

Bostaph spent a year honing his craft on the 'Divine Intervention' album, during which time he improvised some of the tracks but also worked hard to nail down specific drum fills.

The drummer has since become known for his distinctive sound with SLAYER, most recently on their 2015 album 'Repentless,' which was praised by guitarist Kerry King as "making the unit whole" and showcasing Bostaph's technical prowess.

With a storied history in thrash metal, including time with EXODUS, FORBIDDEN, SYSTEMATIC, and TESTAMENT, Bostaph has left an indelible mark on the genre.
