In a new interview with the "Klein.
Ally.
Show." on the Los Angeles radio station KROQ, SMASHING PUMPKINS frontman Billy Corgan expressed interest in performing a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada.
When asked about the possibility, he replied, ""Absolutely.
It's a no-doubter for us.
We just haven't been asked yet."" This comes as SMASHING PUMPKINS prepare to embark on their ambitious "The Rats In A Cage Tour", which kicks off in September and runs through November 2026.
The tour features two distinct sets: one celebrating the band's 1995 album ""Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness""'s recent 30th anniversary, and one a career-spanning journey through nearly four decades' worth of beloved hits, deep cuts, and fan favorites alike.
Corgan highlighted the unique value of performing ""Mellon Collie"" in its entirety, stating that playing the album with its original pacing and song order would be asking too much of the audience.
The Sphere is a 17,600-capacity venue known for hosting residencies by legendary rockers like U2 and PHISH.
It features state-of-the-art technology, including a 16K resolution wraparound screen and powerful sound system.
If SMASHING PUMPKINS were to secure a residency at the Sphere, it would follow in the footsteps of artists like U2 and METALLICA, who have both performed extended runs at the venue.
METALLICA originally announced eight dates at the venue before adding 16 more shows in March, tripling the number of performances for their engagement.
