Guitarist Kim Thayil, drummer Matt Cameron, and bassist Ben Shepherd, three of SOUNDGARDEN's surviving members, reunited for a halftime performance at the Seattle Seahawks' season opener on September 9 against the New England Patriots at Lumen Field. The set featured a medley of SOUNDGARDEN songs, including "Outshined" and "Spoonman," with guest vocalist Taylor Momsen of THE PRETTY RECKLESS substituting for the late Chris Cornell. PEARL JAM's Mike McCready also appeared, performing a Jimi Hendrix-inspired version of the U.S. national anthem prior to the game.

Momsen, a longtime admirer of SOUNDGARDEN and Chris Cornell, previously performed with Thayil, Cameron, and Shepherd at the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Los Angeles, where she sang backing vocals on "Black Hole Sun" with Brandi Carlile and Toni Cornell sang "Fell On Black Days" with HEART's Nancy Wilson.

Thayil and Cameron contributed to THE PRETTY RECKLESS's 2021 album "Death By Rock And Roll," with a track titled "Only Love Can Save Me Now." The band's original bassist, Hiro Yamamoto, was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Cameron, Thayil, and Shepherd are currently collaborating on a new SOUNDGARDEN album featuring previously unreleased recordings made with Chris Cornell before his 2017 death. The project is being produced by Terry Date, who previously worked on SOUNDGARDEN's "Louder Than Love" and "Badmotorfinger" albums, with mixing handled by Joe Barresi.

SOUNDGARDEN last released an album, "King Animal," in 2012 following a 2010 reunion tour. The band effectively disbanded after Chris Cornell's passing in May 2017.
