In a recent interview with Mike 'Radioactive MikeZ' Zara, host of the 96.7 KCAL-FM program 'Wired In The Empire', Stryper frontman Michael Sweet clarified his long-held stance on Metallica.
When asked about his opinions on the legendary metal band, Sweet stated that despite their greatness and massive influence in the music world, he has never been a big fan of Metallica's sound.
He explained: "First of all, look, there's no denying the greatness of Metallica and what they've done, what they've accomplished and how they have basically solidified their brand and what they do is amazing." However, Sweet went on to reveal that he prefers other metal bands like Judas Priest and Pantera over Metallica.
In fact, Sweet even mentioned that his personal favorite guitarist is the late Dimebag Darrell Abbott of Pantera.
When asked if there's a particular Metallica song that stands out for him, Sweet replied: "I remember I posted something not too long ago, and boy did I get flack for it.
It was something to the effect of I couldn't name one Metallica song." This is not an unexpected response from someone who has been openly critical about his own band's sound in the past.
In a previous interview with Robert Cavuoto of Myglobalmind last August, Sweet had stated that he didn't attend a Metallica show when they performed in his home state of Massachusetts.
Despite this, Stryper has often toured alongside other big-name metal bands like Metallica and Guns N' Roses throughout their career.
The band's latest album 'The Master Plan', released on April 3 via Frontiers Music Srl., has been receiving critical acclaim for its personal and spiritually resonant lyrics.
