Stephen O'Malley, co-founder of doom metal pioneers Sunn O))), has unveiled plans for a new solo album in collaboration with XKatedral and La Becque Editions.

Titled 'Spheres Collapser', the record is set to drop on February 27, 2026.

This upcoming release features two extended compositions for pipe organ, penned by O'Malley and performed by himself, Kali Malone, and Frederikke Hoffmeier.

Recorded at Église Saint-François in Lausanne, Switzerland, during December 2021, the album was captured on the Les Grandes Orgues – a historic instrument that dates back to 1777, with additions made in 1867 and 1995.

The music originated from Les Sphères (effondrez-les) Phases I–V, a suite O'Malley composed for a collaboration with Belgian/Swiss choreographer Cindy Van Acker.

This new record translates the spatial and physical intensity of that framework into purely auditory form.

Known for his work in drone and experimental music, O'Malley has spent over two decades pushing the boundaries of heavy and minimalist sound.

With Sunn O))), KTL, Khanate, and numerous collaborations with artists like Scott Walker, Alvin Lucier, and Jóhann Jóhannsson under his belt, O'Malley's expansive artistic portfolio encompasses music, visual art, and interdisciplinary performance.

The album was self-recorded by O'Malley and later mixed at EMS in Stockholm, with additional mixing done in Paris by François-Xavier Delaby and Tristan Mazire in February 2022.

Mastering and lacquer cutting were handled by Rashad Becker in Berlin in June 2025, while vinyl pressing was completed at Optimal Media in Germany.

Pre-orders for 'Spheres Collapser' are available on Bandcamp.
