UK five-piece Tailgunner's second album, produced by KK Downing of Judas Priest fame, is generating buzz.

Promo videos, production quality and media attention are all on their side.

However, it comes down to the music – did they deliver? The band has built upon their strengths, incorporating influences from the NWOBHM, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Helloween and Gamma Ray.

Twin leads, a great singer and big backing vocals are all present.

The album's lead-off track, "Tears In The Rain," bursts forth with twin leads trading off in parts, leading to a short chorus reminiscent of H.E.A.T.

The song features a more AOR-style approach.

Other standout tracks include "Follow Me In Death" with its power metal drive and twin Maiden leads, as well as "Barren Lands And Seas Of Red," which boasts edgy riffing and attack.

The album's video single, "War In Heaven," showcases retro '80s throbbing keys and reflective guitar leads.

Other highlights include the guitar solo trade-offs on most tracks and the energetic closer "Eulogy." With their second album gaining momentum, it remains to be seen whether Tailgunner will receive widespread recognition from old school metalheads and younger fans alike, building upon the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal movement that has been active for 15 years.
