A new face to add to the growing list of exciting Swedish NWOTHM acts, Templar are at home with mid-tempo pacing and echoing vocals that rarely stray skyward.

Recalls defunct countrymen Lethal Steel (which begat both Century & Watcher), Templar's sound is a fusion of galloping rhythms and twin leads.

The album opens with the grandiose and slightly spooky intro "Gates Of Angmar", before launching into the aggressive riffs of "Witchking".

This is followed by the oouncy "Excalibur" which moves at an even faster clip, showcasing more notable guitar work.

However, not all tracks are created equal, as the slow and moody "Sorceress" struggles to find its footing with strained vocals.

The album's highlight comes in the form of "Trident", a blistering 3-minute track that rights the ship.

The final three numbers opt for longer running times, starting with the heavier "White Wolf".

The album closes with the lumbering march "Shipwreck", which begins with some bass noodling.

Templar's sound is worth checking out, and fans of NWOTHM can look forward to hearing more from these guys in the future.
