Beloved figureheads of the European prog metal movement, TEXTURES have finally released their sixth full-length album.
Rather than revive unreleased songs from previous sessions, "Genotype" has been written from scratch, abruptly ending their lengthy hiatus.
The new material showcases the band's continued innovation and melodic approach.
Opener "Void" sets a rich tone with deceptively traditional chord sequences and emotive vocals by Charlotte Wessels and Daniël de Jongh.
"At the Edge of Winter" reveals TEXTURES' refreshed perspective, complete with soaring vocal embellishments.
Joe Tal and Bart Hennephof's flawless guitar work supports Stef Broks's fluid drum parts throughout.
"Nautical Dusk" explodes like fireworks over heavy guitars and ethereal ambience, while "Vanishing Twin" pairs impassioned proselytizing with upgraded prog tropes.
The album concludes on a dramatic note with the epic "Measuring the Heavens", rollercoaster ride "A Seat for the Like-Minded", and the devastating closer "Walls of the Soul".
This is undoubtedly like they have never been away.
With their new record deal through Kscope, TEXTURES are back and blazing again with the same dazzling potential that propelled them through multiple years of polyrhythmic derring-do.
