Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has donated his guitar to a cancer charity in Birmingham, England.

The item sold at auction for £53,000, with proceeds going towards creating a new state-of-the-art Haematology and Oncology Centre for cancer patients.

"It'd be nice if other people can donate and support, to give patients the help they need," Iommi said, thanking fans for their support after beating cancer himself.

The guitar will be delivered to its new owner in America.

Iommi's donation has been described as "overwhelming" by Charlotte Schofield, Director of Fundraising for Heartlands Hospital Charity.
