On Saturday, June 13 at the Download festival at Donington Park in Castle Donington, United Kingdom, TRIVIUM bassist Paolo Gregoletto spoke to TotalRock's 'Hobo On The Radio' show about the band's upcoming album.
The LP will be TRIVIUM's first to feature new drummer Alex Rüdinger, formerly of WHITECHAPEL, who replaced Alex Bent last October.
Grelloletto stated that the original plan was for fans to hear some new music by this summer.
However, due to writing and recording for the album taking longer than expected, they kept adding more songs.
He explained: 'The original plan was, like, it'd be cool to have a song out by this summer.
And we ended up going longer, for good reasons, 'cause we kept writing as we were recording.' When asked about Rüdinger's contribution to the band's sound, Gregoletto praised his new drummer saying: 'He's a phenomenal drummer.
He's a machine.' He also revealed that the drummer's playing has made Matt Heafy, Corey Beaulieu and Paolo Grelloletto play better.
The trio is sitting on what they believe to be their greatest album ever.
Speaking about the band's final recording with Bent, Gregoletto recalled how they started tracking the songs for 'Struck Dead' in January, but only finished mixing it during a tour break.
He said: 'We mixed it on the tour when we were kind of in between the US and the European tour.' TRIVIUM guitarist Corey Beaulieu added that the band's original intention was to make some new music available to coincide with the "The Poisoned Ascendancy" tour.
They had planned to release new songs while touring but due to the pandemic, they decided to go ahead with releasing an EP instead.
