In a new interview with Scott Penfold of Loaded Radio, TYPE O NEGATIVE drummer Johnny Kelly revealed that he recently unearthed a cassette containing an unreleased song from the songwriting sessions for TYPE O NEGATIVE's fourth studio album, 1996's "October Rust".

The band effectively broke up after the passing of frontman Peter Steele in April 2010 from heart failure at the age of 48.

Kelly described how he found a whole bunch of cassettes recently and came across a song that was never used on the original album.

He also mentioned that parts of the song were cannibalized for other tracks, including "Life Is Killing Me".

The unreleased TYPE O NEGATIVE song is set to be released as part of a box set for the band's fourth studio album, with plans currently underway to release a live concert recording from the group.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of "October Rust", and Kelly stated that it would be worth releasing the song now, despite its initial rejection during the original recording sessions.

This is not TYPE O NEGATIVE's first release since their breakup - last November, Johnny told Sh!t Talk Reviews about the group's upcoming live album, saying they were able to get their hands on a show and would be putting it out with Nuclear Blast.

A full-length concert recording from TYPE O NEGATIVE is currently being prepared for a tentative late 2026 or early 2027 release.

TYPE O NEGATIVE was known for its distinctive blend of goth and metal, as well as Steele's iconic vocals, leaving a lasting legacy in heavy music.

Their cult status continues to grow as new generations discover their genre-defining sound.
