Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to make a biopic about rock legends Bon Jovi, with the band's leader Jon Bon Jovi set to participate in the project.

The film will be based on the quartet's formative years and their rise to fame.

Multiple studios had previously chased the project before Universal came on board.

The studio behind music-themed biopics Straight Outta Compton and 8 Mile has partnered with Cody Brotter, who wrote the Black List script Drudge about Matt Drudge.

The scribe also rewrote Killing Satoshi for Doug Liman.

The film will be produced by Kevin J.

Walsh and Gotham Chopra, whose Religion of Sports produced Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.

The documentary series on the band was directed by Chopra with full access to the band members.

Bon Jovi are also set to hit the road this summer, kicking off their much-anticipated return to live touring in July at New York's iconic Madison Square Garden.

The tour is produced by Live Nation and will feature shows in London, Dublin, Edinburgh, and other cities around the globe.

Additional dates have been added due to high demand.
