In a recent appearance on the Joe Pavich Podcast, longtime KISS manager Doc McGhee spoke about the decline of the music industry.
He discussed how consumers now value access over ownership and experiences over assets, leading to revenue streams being "eaten up" by other industries.
McGhee pointed to streaming services as one culprit, stating that artists like emerging talent are no longer paid for their work due to it only being available on these platforms.
McGhee also criticized the music industry's failure to capitalize on the Internet, citing Napster as an example of how the industry "killed the record business" with its outdated approach.
McGhee reflected on his storied career in a May 2023 IQ magazine article, where he was hailed as one of the music industry's most legendary artist managers.
Under his guidance, his artist clients have sold over half a billion records thanks to a roster featuring some of rock's biggest acts, including BON JOVI and MÖTLY CRÜE.
McGhee has also appeared on various reality shows, including VH1's "Supergroup" with Ted Nugent, Sebastian Bach, and Jason Bonham.
