Canada's progressive metal band VOIVOD has confirmed the upcoming release of a new studio album, set for late 2027. The project is a concept album featuring the return of the band's mascot cyborg Korgull and is described as a cinematic journey with experimental sound design. Guitarist Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain confirmed that three tracks have been recorded, with additional songs in development following a U.S. tour scheduled for October. The band will perform the tour after a summer tour cycle, during which Mongrain, who teaches music at Cégep Régional De Lanaudière À Joliette, steps away from teaching duties.

The new album builds on VOIVOD's long-standing tradition of innovation, incorporating jazz and orchestral elements. Mongrain has previously composed arrangements for string and brass ensembles, including performances at the Montreal Jazz Festival and with the Orchestre Symphonique De Montréal. The band's creative direction emphasizes experimentalism, drawing from its award-winning past, including the 2023 Juno Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Album for "Morgöth Tales".

In addition to the new album, VOIVOD is preparing for a wide array of multimedia projects. The band's official documentary "We Are Connected" premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival in July 2024 and features interviews with metal icons such as Tobias Forge, Mikael Åkerfeldt, and Jason Newsted. The band also released the book "Always Moving: The Strange Multiverse Of Voivod" in November 2024, which chronicles its 40-plus-year legacy. A video game titled "Nuclear Warrior" is also in development, based on 1980s and 1990s aesthetics, with contributions from all band members.

The band's latest album, "Morgöth Tales", was released in 2023 via Century Media Records, The Orchard, and Sony Music, and continues to be supported by touring and live performances. The 2025 live album "Symphonique", recorded at the Grand Théâtre in Québec City, is also available worldwide via Century Media Records.
