In a recent interview with Jamie Guida of The Mixdown podcast, WARRANT frontman Robert Mason reflected on his secret role as a background singer for Ozzy Osbourne during the 1995-1996 'Ozzmosis' tour.
According to Mason, Ozzy had just released his latest album, 'Ozzmosis,' in October 1995 and was touring in support of the LP.
Mason had been doing session work in Los Angeles for Grammy-winning producer Keith Olsen, who co-produced Ozzy's 1988 LP 'No Rest For The Wicked' and also produced LYNCH MOB's 1992 self-titled album.
Ozzy had invited Mason to join his band as a background singer after Sharon Osbourne personally reached out to him for the gig.
Mason recalled feeling energized by being on stage with Ozzy, but he also noted that the legendary frontman was not immune to challenges while touring.
'It's tough being on the road sometimes,' Mason said of Ozzy's experiences.
Mason eventually left Ozzy's band after about two months to join southern-rock band CRY OF LOVE for their second release, 'Diamonds & Debris.' He recalled having to sit down with Sharon and Ozzy to explain his decision, but he emphasized that the move was a chance to return to being a lead singer.
After some time off, Mason reunited with LYNCH MOB for their 2003 album 'Revolution,' which also featured remakes by DOKKEN.
Today, Mason is still fronting WARRANT, having joined the band in 2008 after meeting them at Rocklahoma festival.
