In a new interview with Australia's Today show, WARRANT guitarist Erik Turner spoke about the fact that the band's hit song "Cherry Pie" is reaching a whole new generation thanks to the hit Prime Video series "Off Campus".
The first season of the show has reportedly become the third most-watched debut series of all time on Prime Video, with a combined 36 million viewers in its first two weeks.
Erik noted that he did not know the song would be featured in the episode before it aired.
His wife's phone started blowing up with texts from her friends saying they had just heard "Cherry Pie" on the show and were watching it.
He stated, ""I'm glad that the producers and the actors and writers are having fun with it.
It's awesome that they're not scared to get a little edgy, push the boundaries, and it's working.
It's great entertainment.
Everybody's having fun with it.
We're having fun with it, and we're so stoked."" Erik also discussed how WARRANT is seeing a huge spike in streams and downloads due to the song's appearance in "Off Campus".
He noted that normally they would put out a video or something and get 20-40,000 streams, but now they are getting two million streams.
This has led to an increase in interest in the band and their music, with Erik stating, ""We play, like, 50 shows a year.
That's still happening.
Definitely, with the Internet stuff, online stuff, there's definitely more interest in the band and the song, which is great."" WARRANT's history with "Cherry Pie" dates back to the late 1980s when original WARRANT singer Jani Lane recorded the album it appears on.
The song became a hit single, but Jani has publicly expressed his dislike for the song over the years.
In a recent interview, Jani explained that he wrote the song at Columbia Records' request after they had trouble with the record's other singles.
He stated, ""I could shoot myself in the fucking head for writing that song."" Despite this, "Cherry Pie" has become one of WARRANT's most iconic songs and is still widely enjoyed by fans today.
