In a recent interview with Special K of The Sound, Wolfgang Van Halen, former bassist of Van Halen and current frontman of Mammoth, weighed in on the state of modern rock.
When asked what he believes modern rock needs more of, Van Halen replied: "I really don't know.
I think there's room for everything.
In this day and age, we're just inundated with a crazy amount of things, but I think there's room for everything to breathe and to coexist." He added that as long as the writing and playing of music is what matters most, bands can't lose.
Mammoth's third album, "The End," dropped last October and features Wolfgang handling all songwriting and instrumentation duties.
The 10-track effort clocks in at 39 minutes and showcases Van Halen's evolution as a songwriter since his debut solo release in 2020.
Recorded at the legendary 5150 studio, the album was produced by Michael "Elvis" Baskette.
Mammoth will embark on their first headlining tour of 2026, kicking off March 5 in Buffalo, New York and running through April 4 in Prior Lake, Minnesota.
The tour features support from 10 Years and James And The Cold Gun.
The touring lineup includes Wolfgang Van Halen on guitar and lead vocals, Frank Sidoris on guitar, Jon Jourdan on guitar and vocals, Garrett Whitlock on drums, and Ronnie Ficarro on bass.
In the interview, Van Halen discussed his approach to songwriting and how he remains true to himself as an artist.
His comments come as Mammoth continues to tour in support of their latest album, "The End." The band's first offering, "Mammoth WVH," debuted at No.
12 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2021 and earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Song.
Two years later, their sophomore release, "Mammoth II," saw them pick up speed with critical acclaim from outlets like Rolling Stone, Guitar World, and Kerrang! The band has been touring extensively since, supporting acts like Metallica and FOO FIGHTERS and performing on high-profile television appearances like NBC's "Today" and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" They also performed at the 2024 MusiCares "Person Of The Year" benefit gala in honor of Jon Bon Jovi.
Notably, Van Halen shared the stage with Ryan Gosling, Mark Ronson, and Slash at the 2024 Academy Awards performing "I'm Just Ken" from the blockbuster "Barbie" movie.
