In a recent interview with The Garza Podcast hosted by SUICIDE SILENCE guitarist Chris Garza, Zakk Wylde spoke about his experience playing the classic PANTERA material with Rex Brown and Philip Anselmo.
When asked what the "hardest part" has been of him being the touring guitarist for the reactivated PANTERA and learning to play the band's classic songs, Wylde replied: "You just sit and you learn 'em.
What I just find super interesting is going into the catalog and all the chord choices that Dime [late PANTERA guitarist 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott] would make." He also mentioned being able to "hear where Dime's going," and how it felt like he was back at his first Ozzy show when performing with PANTERA for the first time.
Wylde stated that playing PANTERA material has been a fun experience, but also emphasized the importance of staying faithful to the original songs and not trying to replicate the unique tone and style of Dimebag Darrell.
Wylde's comments come as PANTERA continues to tour extensively in support of their reactivated status.
The band is currently headlining major festivals across North America, South America, and Europe, and has also been supporting METALLICA on a massive stadium tour.
