In a candid interview with the Mike James Rock Show, THE WILDHEARTS frontman Ginger spoke about his recent cancer diagnosis, revealing that he has been given three years to live.
The singer has mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), which typically affects the lymph nodes but can also impact other tissues throughout the body.
When discussing his mindset in the wake of this news, Ginger stated, "My brain is in a fantastic place at the moment.
I'm living every second in the moment." He emphasized the importance of staying present and focused on enjoying life, rather than worrying about the future or past.
Ginger acknowledged the impact THE WILDHEARTS' music has had on their fans, saying, "Thank you very much for that.
I really appreciate that," when informed of how his band's joyous music and positivity have affected a lot of people.
He noted that the community formed by the band has helped its members find joy in their own lives.
In terms of his plans for the coming months, Ginger expressed his intention to continue living life to the fullest.
Despite being given only three years to live, he stated, "I think what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna do exactly the same as I've always done.
I'm just gonna ramp it up a few notches." He also shared his desire to "party like a motherfucker for the rest of my days" and to ultimately "drag my burning corpse to the gates of hell and say, 'That was fucking brilliant.'" Ginger's condition reportedly came to light during THE WILDHEARTS' "More Satanic Rites" tour in December 2025.
In a statement on social media this past March, Ginger reflected on his life, saying, "No misery please, positivity all the way." The 61-year-old musician added that he would continue rocking until the very last moment and still has two to three years to say goodbye to everyone.
THE WILDHEARTS are an English rock band formed in 1989 in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Their sound combines hard rock and melodic pop elements, often described as blending influences from THE BEATLES and METALLICA.
Despite facing difficulties with record companies and internal problems related to drugs and depression, the band has achieved several Top 20 singles and two Top 10 albums in Britain.
