AMON AMARTH has announced their upcoming album "The Allfather Awakens", set for release on October 2 via Metal Blade Records. The 13th studio album since 1998's "Once Sent From The Golden Hall" draws inspiration from Norse mythology, centering on the god Oden, who embodies war, wisdom, death, magic, and poetry. While the album is thematically linked to Oden, it is not a concept record but rather a collection of historically inspired tales of conflict and sacrifice.
The band began writing songs during their touring schedule, with guitarists Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg developing riffs on the road. The recording process took place across two sessions at producer Jacob Hansen's studio in Denmark, beginning in spring 2025 and concluding in March 2026. The band recorded one song at a time, focusing on full tracks with drums, guitars, bass, and vocals before moving to the next, allowing for greater musical refinement and vocal rest.
The album features tracks including "Eight Legs Of Thunder," "Kvasir's Blood," and "Die With A War Cry," with the lyrical climax in "We Rule The Waves" echoing the band's enduring spirit: "From cradle until the grave / As long as the sun sets in the west / We rule the waves / Our restless hearts / Have brought us far / As far as Vinland's shores / We've gone further / Than any man has ever gone before."
In addition to the album, AMON AMARTH will unveil a new live production inspired by Oden's Golden Hall, transforming their concert experience into a living extension of the album. The cover art, by Tom Thiel, depicts Oden and is consistent with the band's visual legacy. The release follows a strong global tour history, including headlining performances at Wacken Open Air, Bloodstock, and Download festivals, as well as major shows at Red Rocks and The Forum.
The band also celebrated the cultural phenomenon of "The Row," a fan-led ritual first introduced during a 2009 Bloodstock performance. A new single, "Put Your Back Into The Oar," was released in 2022 to honor the tradition, which has since spread to global events including the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The new album marks a significant evolution in the band's creative output after three decades of consistent musical development.
