Swedish melodic death metal band AT THE GATES has released their eighth studio album, "The Ghost Of A Future Dead", worldwide on April 24 via Century Media Records. The album serves as a tribute to frontman Tomas Lindberg, who passed away in September 2025 after a battle with adenoid cystic carcinoma. Lindberg, 52, had undergone major surgery in December 2023 that removed a large portion of the roof of his mouth, followed by radiation therapy. Traces of the cancer were found in early 2025, leading to long-term care.

The album features vocals recorded in one day, just before Lindberg’s surgery, ensuring the final vocal takes were captured prior to his medical setback. The recording process included guitar work by Anders Björler and Martin Larsson, with bass by Jonas Björler and drums by Adrian Erlandsson. The LP was mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden, and features artwork by Robert Samsonowitz.

"The Ghost Of A Future Dead" marks the first time AT THE GATES has entered the Swedish album chart at No. 1, topping both the physical and vinyl charts. The release was delayed from its original 2025 target to allow for the completion of the album and to honor Lindberg’s vision. The record blends elements from previous albums, including "Slaughter Of The Soul" and "At War With Reality", with a return to the band’s roots.

In addition to the album, AT THE GATES has confirmed plans for future shows to celebrate Lindberg’s legacy, though specific details have not yet been announced. The band has also announced that guitarist Anders Björler, who returned to the group in 2022, is back in the lineup for the project. The album is set to be released two years after its completion in the studio, fulfilling Lindberg’s wishes for its final presentation.
