Black Sabbath has released new reel-to-reel audiophile editions of its landmark debut album and the 1970 follow-up Paranoid, available exclusively through Rhino.com. The editions are duplicated in real time from 1:1 copies of the US analog master tapes, preserving the original sound dynamics. Each 15 i.p.s. half-track 1/4" tape is produced to the IEC equalization standard on premium RTM LPR90 tape stock and stored on a 10.5" metal reel. The releases are limited to 500 copies worldwide.

The self-titled debut, released on February 13, 1970, featured Tony Iommi’s guitar riffs, Ozzy Osbourne’s primal vocals, Geezer Butler’s bass lines, and Bill Ward’s drumming. Tracks such as "Black Sabbath" and "N.I.B." defined the sound of heavy metal. The album peaked at #8 on the UK chart and #23 on the Billboard 200, earning platinum certification in the US.

Paranoid, released in September 1970, solidified Black Sabbath’s status as the Godfathers of Heavy Metal. The album topped the UK charts and peaked at #12 on the Billboard 200, selling over four million copies. It includes tracks like "Iron Man," "War Pigs," and the title track, with the atmospheric "Planet Caravan" showcasing the band’s dynamic range.
