POISON frontman Bret Michaels has announced he will be unable to perform for the next 3 to 4 weeks following surgery to remove a kidney stone sustained during a recent military tribute show at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, when Michaels experienced severe kidney pain after performing at the event honoring military heroes and their families.
Dr.
Abby Borhan, Michaels' physician, confirmed that a ureteral stent was successfully placed during the procedure and remains in place.
She stated that due to Michaels' underlying health conditions — including Type 1 diabetes and a lower back compression fracture — he is restricted from live performances and only prescribed light physical activity during recovery.
The stent causes significant internal friction, constant discomfort, and localized inflammation, which are exacerbated by the physical demands of high-intensity live performances.

Borhan emphasized that Michaels' recovery is further complicated by his Type 1 diabetes, which impairs immune function and healing.
She warned that he faces a high risk of developing a serious urinary tract infection or urosepsis until the stent is removed.
She noted that the rigorous schedule of a high-intensity tour makes it impossible to maintain the sterile environments, strict hydration protocols, and precise blood glucose management required for safe recovery.
Michaels expressed gratitude for the medical care he has received throughout his career and acknowledged the support of family, fans, and crew.
In a statement, he said: "I'm forever grateful for the amazing medical treatment and ongoing medical attention throughout my personal life and career, and truly grateful for family, friends, fans, band, crew and promoters for their understanding and, if all goes well, will hit the road late August back to delivering 1000% energy, intensity and truly nothing but a good time." Michaels previously indicated in April that a POISON reunion tour could take place in 2027, which would mark the 41st anniversary of the band's debut album, "Look What the Cat Dragged In." He teased during an interview with "Chaz & AJ In The Morning" that the tour could be titled "40 Plus One." POISON last performed live in 2022, supporting MÖTLEY CRÜE and DEF LEPPARD on a stadium tour.
Since then, Michaels has performed sporadically with his solo band.
