Taiwan's largest metal band CHTHONIC has released a new song titled "Näin Määrättiin" in collaboration with Finnish artist Mariska. This marks the first time Mariska has appeared on an extreme metal track. The song draws inspiration from the final messages of Taiwanese political prisoners before execution, a theme that resonates with Finnish history during the Winter War, which was reported in Taiwan's Minpao newspaper in the early 20th century.

CHTHONIC's vocalist Freddy Lim discovered a historical connection between the two nations' experiences of separation and survival. The song, described by band members as their first love song, blends CHTHONIC's signature style with new elements, reflecting on grief, guilt, and hope. Bassist Doris Yeh played a key role in refining the original demo and noted a personal connection to Mariska through her song "Terveisin Doris."

The music video for "Näin Määrättiin" premiered at the Air Guitar World Championships and the Oulu Music Video Festival in Finland. CHTHONIC has released albums including "Mirror Of Retribution" (2009), "Takasago Army" (2011), and "Butik" (2013), and has performed at major festivals such as Ozzfest, Download, and Wacken Open Air. The band reduced its touring activities after Freddy Lim's election to Taiwan's legislature in 2016, releasing only occasional new works including the singles "Pattonkan" (2023) and "Endless Aeons" (2025).

In 2023, declassified files revealed the sorrowful past of Freddy Lim's family, deepening his emotional connection to CHTHONIC's thematic roots. As a result, Lim ended his eight-year term in parliament and will not seek re-election. In 2025, he was appointed as Taiwan's ambassador to Finland, a role seen as a fitting tribute to his long-standing ties with the Finnish music scene.
