Chuck Billy Releases Cancer Memoir November 10
Iconic Testament frontman Chuck Billy has announced the release of his memoir, Holding My Breath: The Two Testaments Of Chuck Billy, on November 10 via Permuted Press. The book details his journey through a 2001 cancer diagnosis and survival, which he says was pivotal in reuniting his band and inspiring other metal acts to persevere. The memoir is structured as two interlocking parts: the Old Testament traces the rise of Bay Area thrash metal and Testament's formation, while the New Testament explores his personal battle with illness, cultural identity, and spiritual healing.
The book is co-written with Dave Erickson and includes a foreword by Rob Halford and an afterword by Randy Blythe. Billy, a Native American and Mexican-American, draws on his heritage and the support of the metal community throughout the narrative. A special benefit concert, the Thrash Of The Titans event, is highlighted as a key moment that brought together rival bands and helped spark a genre revival.
The memoir also reflects on Billy's lifelong commitment to music and community, including his recognition by the California State Assembly and his involvement in Native American cultural exhibitions. com. Events to celebrate the release include a party in Seal Beach, California, on November 10 from 4 to 8 PM, hosted by Sirius XM Metal Ambassador Jose Mangin and comedian Brian Posehn.
A separate event in Dublin, CA, at The Back Lounge, will take place from 2 to 6 PM on the same date, hosted by Phil and Marta Demmel and Brian Posehn. More details for these events are pending.
