UK progressive death metallers Cryptic Shift have shared their latest single, “Cryogenically Frozen,” a blistering cut that distills the band’s extreme metal assault into a tightly focused burst.

The track is taken from the upcoming full-length Overspace & Supertime, due out February 27 via Metal Blade Records.

In contrast to the sprawling introductions of their 2020 debut Visitations From Enceladus, “Cryogenically Frozen” launches immediately into a barrage of jazz fusion–tinged twists and turns. Vocalist and guitarist Alexander Bradley says the song highlights the band’s ability to write complex material without abandoning their death/thrash foundations.

The track also advances Cryptic Shift’s expanding sci-fi narrative, following a new character, The Recaller, through her story arc. One of the shorter compositions on the album, it closes with a brief moment of calm before Overspace & Supertime shifts into its true centerpiece: the 29-minute “Stratocumulus Evergaol.”

Blending a shared obsession with science fiction and extreme metal, the band describe their sound as “Phenomenal Technological Astrodeath.” While their debut earned acclaim for its progressive technical death/thrash approach, Overspace & Supertime continues the story in an alternate reality, pushing both concept and composition further.

Pre-orders are available via Metal Blade Records.
