Veteran U.K. metal journalist Dom Lawson has suffered a heart attack at the Bloodstock Open Air festival this past weekend.

Lawson, who has written for BLABBERMOUTH.NET, Metal Hammer, Prog, The Guardian and other publications, was transported to hospital following the incident and is currently awaiting surgery.

A GoFundMe campaign https://www.gofundme.com/f/dom-lawson-medical-shenanigans has been launched by Lawson's friend Alex to raise £6,600 to cover medical expenses, as Lawson is unable to perform freelance work for weeks or months due to recovery requirements.

The campaign reflects the severity of the event, with Lawson stating he was 'forced to do lots of resting and recuperating' and that heart attacks are 'fucking hurt'.

Lawson began his journalism career in 1999 with Kerrang!, before joining Metal Hammer and Prog in 2007.

From 2014 to 2016, he served as editor-at-large at Metal Hammer, overseeing the magazine's front section.

He remains a longtime radio host on TotalRock, currently presenting 'The Dompilation Tapes'.
