Ian Hill, the sole remaining original member of JUDAS PRIEST, has officially retired from the band due to chronic arthritis and injuries. The 74-year-old bassist revealed his decision in a statement released on October 9, citing ongoing physical struggles with his shoulder and thumb as the primary reasons for stepping away. Hill described how repeated tours, particularly a six-show stretch in eight days culminating in a Brussels performance, aggravated his tendon condition. During the final show at the Eventim Apollo in London on September 21, Hill was unable to play and had to rest his arm, leading to his eventual exit from live performances.

To ensure continuity, the band enlisted URAH HEEP's Davey Rimmer as an understudy. Rimmer performed at the London show and was praised for his seamless integration into the set, having learned the material in just two days. Hill confirmed that he will not participate in future tours but will contribute bass lines to the band's upcoming album, which is set for release next year. He remains open to limited appearances at select PRIEST concerts, such as encores at landmark shows.

Hill emphasized that his departure was not due to a lack of passion for the band but was a result of the physical toll of touring at an advanced age. Arthritis, he said, does not improve with time and surgery is not a viable option. The band has expressed confidence in Rimmer's abilities, noting his long-standing relationship with the group and his experience in rock bass playing. As the only original member remaining, Hill's exit marks a significant shift in JUDAS PRIEST's history. The band will continue with its legacy through new music and touring, supported by Rimmer and the current lineup.
