Veteran drummer Josh Freese has opened up about his abrupt dismissal from Foo Fighters in May 2025, two years after stepping in following the death of Taylor Hawkins.
In a recent interview with SiriusXM's Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, Freese revealed he still hasn't gained clarity on why he was let go.
"The Foo Fighters are such a big, mainstream band that everything I say gets taken out of context," he explained.
Despite his respect for frontman Dave Grohl remaining intact, Freese admitted he has "a couple small theories" about the split but declined to elaborate.
He did express enthusiasm for reuniting with Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor after his stint with Foo Fighters.
However, when asked if there was a calculated drum-trade between Ilan Rubin leaving Nine Inch Nails to join the Foo Fighters, Freese dismissed it as "just coincidence" that both he and Rubin were available at the same time.
