During METALLICA's May 24 concert at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany, METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo performed a cover of the ACCEPT classic 'Fast As A Shark'.

Fan-filmed video of the performance can be seen below.

This isn't a one-off event; since launching the M72 world tour in Amsterdam in April 2023, METALLICA has been covering songs from their musical heroes on each stop.

The band's setlists include these renditions, dubbed 'doodles,' which feature pared-down interpretations with guitar and bass-only arrangements sometimes including Trujillo singing.

Robert Trujillo explained the origins of this unique approach in a 2020 appearance on 'Drinks With Johnny' hosted by AVENGED SEVENFOLDS Johnny Christ.

The band discovered their ability to emotionally connect with crowds through these covers when they played songs like Johnny Hallyday's 'Le Pénitencier' at Stade De France in Paris and Loretta Lynn's song at a show in Nashville, where the country artist herself was in attendance.

Not every artist has been flattered by the Trujillo/Hammett versions of their music however, as Tom Gabriel Fischer, former frontman of CELTIC FROST, shared his displeasure with Rolling Stone about METALLICA's cover of 'The Usurper' during a May 2019 concert in Zurich Switzerland.

The band will continue to bring these local favorites to the live stage throughout their ongoing tour.
