A new force in the black metal scene, Dysthen is a raw and unrelenting entity that channels the dark duality of existence through their self-titled EP.

This soul-crushing effort combines punishing rhythms, cold riffs and melodies, and pummeling drums to create a vice-like grip on the listener.

With guitarist Osgilliath behind the reins – who's made his mark with acts like Sanghrial and Vox Lvciferi - Dysthen brings a unique brand of Swedish black metal that's reminiscent of Watain's Casus Luciferi in its production and execution.

The EP features four tracks, each showcasing a different aspect of the band's sound.

Opener 'Lotus' sets the tone with searing guitars and diabolical screams, while 'Aurora' showcases impressive riff construction before winding down to a more contemplative pace.

'Wheat' is a mid-tempo monster with rumbling bass and diverse drumming shifts that create a dissonant atmosphere of anguish.

The EP closes strong with 'Ves,' which opens with despairing screams before warping into unrelenting rhythms and frantic bleakness.

With their full-length effort still to come, Dysthen is definitely one to watch in the black metal scene.
