Satanic Planet Releases New Album 'Dead Deities'
Satanic Planet has announced the release of its new album, "Dead Deities," on October 30 via Relapse Records. The album features Lucien Greaves, Luke Henshaw, Dave Lombardo, and Justin Pearson, who are now fully assembled in the studio. The record marks a mature evolution of the band's sound, combining aggressive, pitch-black elements with a strong thematic focus on opposition to autocracy and Christian nationalism.
The album's first single, "Sam Alito's Mom," references Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito, known for his role in overturning Roe v. Wade. The track features a vocal exchange between Greaves and Pearson, delivered at a slow, growling pace that underscores the song's confrontational tone. The song is part of a broader campaign by The Satanic Temple, which has opened three abortion clinics and is working toward opening a fourth, with plans to sue for the right to ship abortion pharmaceuticals nationwide.
"Dead Deities" blends tolling bells, blackened synth, diabolical noise interludes, and heavy drumming to create a visceral, dark sonic experience. The album's lyrical content reflects the goals of The Satanic Temple, which advocates for benevolence, common sense, and resistance to injustice. The record serves as a direct protest against theocratic influence and social regression.
The music video for "Church Burning" is directed by Rodrigo Espinosa and is available online. The album is described as a call-to-arms in the age of Christian nationalism, with lyrics and sound designed to challenge authoritarianism and uphold resistance through art and action.
